Muslim fury after bikini model claimed to be Pakistan's entry
A prize winning bikini contest model who claimed she was the Pakistani representative has sparked outrage in the predominantly muslim country.
Stunning Mariyah Moten, 22, won the 'Best in Media' title - for being the most photographed and interviewed contestant - at the pageant in the Chinese resort of Beihai.
But furious Pakistani authorities say she did not have permission to represent the country, where many women only go out in public covered in a veil.
They are now threatening the model, who grew up in Pakistan but holds a US passport after she moved there eight years ago, with restrictions on entering her homeland.
"We have asked our missions in Washington and Beijing to investigate this because it is against our policy, culture and religion," senior Culture Ministry official Abdul Hafeez Chaudhry said.
"She is an American passport holder. She is an American national of Pakistani origin, so how did she get entry as a Pakistani?"
Moten, a student of hotel management at the University of Houston, was born and brought up in the Pakistani city of Karachi.
Mr Chaudhry said Pakistan - which does not hold beauty contests - might take the issue up with China, depending on the result of the investigation.
He also said the government might withdraw from Moten special privileges offered to people of Pakistani descent such as visa-free travel to Pakistan.

Pakistan hockey members fined for hugging woman
Pakistan hockey members fined for hugging woman
Pakistan’s parliament fined members of it national field hockey team after photos surfaced of them hugging a female liaison officer at the Champions Challenge tournament in Argentina last month.
Rehan Butt was fined $1,175 and coach Shahid Ali Khan and manager Asif Bajwa $588 each.
Pakistan team members took pictures with the liaison officer during the official players’ night at the end of the tournament. The dinner was also attended by other participating teams and their officials. Pakistan lost the final to New Zealand.
“It is not our culture to hug a lady,” said Jamshed Dasti, chairman of Pakistan’s lower house standing committee on sports. “The players are ambassadors of their country and they should remember this well.”
Khan said that the Pakistan Hockey Federation had already taken note of the pictures, which were uploaded on YouTube.
“The lady requested us to have photos with her, but I agree with the committee members that some pictures were objectionable and it should have been avoided,” Khan said
One of the female members of the committee, Nasim Akhtar Chaudhry, said the photos sent the wrong message about Pakistan’s traditions and culture.
“We live in an Islamic country,” she said. “We didn’t shake hands with males when our women parliamentary delegation visited the U.S. last year, and here they are giving a hug to a lady.”
